What kind of food do you serve?
Our style can best be described as “Modern American.” We source our ingredients locally, buy from organic or sustainable producers whenever possible and make every dish from scratch so you and your guests enjoy the freshest and most flavorful food.

Even though we’re Midwesterners, we have experience making every kind of food you can think of, so if there is a particular dish or style you’d like at your event, please ask.

What type of events do you cater?
Our customized approach to catering lets us cater any kind of event you can imagine. Whether you hosting a lunch meeting for 10, a cocktail party of 30, or an extravagant wedding reception we can create a menu that is sure to please every guest.

Where do you cater?
Most of the events that we cater are at the Rochester Art Center, Cambria and private homes. We also have relationships with other event venues in Minnesota and Wisconsin. See our Venues page to learn more.

Can Sontes Catering accommodate dietary restrictions?
Yes! One of the advantages of our customized approach to catering is that we can easily accommodate guest with special dietary needs.

Does Sontes Catering offer bar service?
Yes! Our extensive licensing allows us to be the most flexible bar service provider in southeastern Minnesota. In addition, our partnerships with Tessa’s Office Wine Boutique lets us offer an unmatched variety of wines, beers and liquors. And we’re the only caterer offering locally crafted beers from our sister company, Grand Rounds Brew Pub.

I’ve never had a catered event before. What is the process like?
Planning an event isn’t nearly as hard as you think. Our experienced staff can guide you through the entire process. We want your event to reflect who you are, so we take the time to get to know you and what you have in mind for your special occasion. Planning an event is a conversation and we’ll ask a lot of questions including the number of guests you are expecting, the type menu style you want (cocktail party, family style, plated dinner, etc.), the kind of foods and flavors you love (and don’t love), and what your budget is. Once we have that information, we’ll develop a menu that fits your style and budget, and with your approval, make it happen! Simply go to the “Get Started” and fill out the questionnaire and we can get your event planning on its way.

Does Sontes Catering offer tastings?
Yes, it is possible schedule a tasting. There is $50 per person tasting fee, which will be refunded if you choose to book your event with us.

Can I hire you to provide only bar service and not the food?
Minnesota law requires that the bartending service provider also provide food at the event. We are happy to work with you to provide beverage and food service that meets your budget and expectations and follows the law.

What else can you provide, in addition to food and beverages?
In addition to food and bar service, we can provide dishes, flatware and glasses and linens for your event, whether it’s a casual gathering or a formal affair. In addition, we offer event staffing and planning services.

What is your booking and cancellation policy? When do I have to provide a final guest count?
A 50% deposit is required for us to hold the date. In the event of a cancellation, the amount of the deposit that will be refunded is based on the timing of the cancellation.

  • Cancellation received more than 1 month before to the event: 100% of deposit refunded.
  • Cancellation received 14 – 30 days before the event date: 50% of deposit refunded.
  • Cancellation received 8 – 13 days before the event date: 25% of the deposit refunded.
  • Cancellation received less than 7 days before the event date: deposit not refunded.

Cancellation is considered final only after receiving a written confirmation.

The date your final guest count is due depends on the size of your event:

  • Fewer than 30 people: guest count is required 2 weeks before the event date.
  • 31-100 people: guest count is required 3 weeks before the event date.
  • 101 or more people: guest count is required 4 weeks before the event date.

Are there any additional charges that will appear on my final bill?
Once your menu and guest count are confirmed, you will receive a detailed estimate of all charges. Please let us know if you have questions about anything included in the estimate.
